MICHAEL PAUL "MIKE" DeMERS ~ Class of 1967
July 11, 1949 - May 25, 2023

Mike DeMers

Omak, Washington -

Michael Paul DeMers, age 73, passed away at sunrise, May 25, 2023. Mike, the son of Robert and Bernice DeMers, was born July 11, 1949, and was raised in Richland.

He attended Christ the King School, Carmichael Junior High School and graduated with the Class of 1967 from Richland's Columbia High School. Mike attended Washington State University and graduated with an AA degree from Wenatchee Junior College.

After graduation, he moved to Omak and remained a member of that community until his death.

He was a licensed land surveyor and the sole proprietor of Forest Property Consulting Services, Inc. He lived very frugally and simply, relying on a wood stove for heat each winter. His closest companions at home were several Labrador dogs he raised and trained to hunt. He researched his family's genealogy and listened to the Mariners. Mike loved to hunt and fish with Ray Miller and the late John Taylor, friends of many decades.

He was challenged later in life by mental health issues, but the community of Omak treated him with respect and compassion.

He is survived by his sisters, Cheryl Kingen ('66) of Spokane and Joni Lewis ('73) of Richland; four nieces and one nephew; numerous grand nieces and nephews; and paternal and maternal cousins.

The family expresses its profound gratitude to Kellie Davies and the staff and residents at Welcome Home Villa, Mike's residence for the past two years. They enveloped him with warmth and love as his mental health declined.

A private family memorial will be held later this summer.
