From the 40-year Class Reunion Booklet in 2007:

"From her home in Southern California, Nancy (Middleton) Lane sent some thoughts:"

"After high school I moved back to Puyallup, where I lived before coming to Richland. While there, I became a hair stylist and then moved back to Richland to work in several shops. Then, a good friend and I decided to take off for parts unknown and ended up in Los Angeles. I worked there for a while and lived in Hollywood. I met my ex-husband in Los Angeles and we moved to Alaska.

I have three children (two daughters and one son) and two grandchildren. Mandy is the oldest. She is just about to turn 30 and lives in Seattle. Mandy is the mother of one of my grandchildren. Ian, my son, also lives in Seattle and is 29. He is the father of my other grandchild. Brooke is 27 and single. She lives near me in Southern California.

I have always had an interest in skin care (not cosmetics). Eventually, I became a skin care specialist. For years, I worked for Nordstrom and Saks. During that time I represented several skin care lines.

I am a person who loves to go on adventures. I like to take off without a destination in mind, just to see what's out there. I've traveled to Europe, but now I have to have adventures in the U.S. to discover our great country. Photography has been a hobby of mind, giving me way to keep my memories of great adventures.

About two years ago, I became ill with symptoms of nausea, dizziness and pain. It took a while to get a diagnosis, but eventually I saw a neurologist who made the diagnosis of Acoustic Neuroma. This is a non-cancerous growth in the inner ear that affects hearing and balance. In my case, the growth had grown and was putting pressure on my brain. It was necessary to remove the growth immediately. In the process, I lost hearing in one ear. I've had a Cochlear Implant which helps distribute sound and improves my hearing.

Through the process of my life and also while healing during the last year and a half, I've learned that having the motto 'Onward and Upward' is very important. Looking ahead always offers hope. I've been blessed with many things in my life, but one that hits home for me is friendship. I've always had friends. Still today my best friend is Susan Shepard ('67) who has always been there for me. Joyce Soehnlein ('67) is also one of my good friends from school in Richland who stays in touch, even though we live on opposite sides of the country.

I am grateful that I am alive and well, still tall and thin."
