John Alan Pierce, age 69, of Richland passed away July 9, 2019 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.

He was born in Richland on October 6, 1949 to John R. and Genevieve Sweeney Pierce. He was raised in Richland where he attended Christ the King School, Carmichael Junior High School and graduated with the Class of 1967 from Richland's Columbia High School. He completed two years at CBC.

John worked for Pacific Log Scaling and Grading Bureau for 38 years as a log scaler, working in Washington, Canada and Alaska. He retired in 2012.

He and Nancy Worley Pierce ('67) reconnected at their 20-year class reunion and instantly fell in love. After living in Morton, Glenoma and Hoquiam they moved back to Richland to retire. John enjoyed spending his time golfing, bowling, cards and traveling. The family spent every summer at Cannon Beach and along the Oregon Coast.

John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nancy Worley Pierce ('67) of Richland; sisters: Nancy Pierce Akers ('61) of Seattle and JoAnn Pierce Borden ('56) (Glenn) of Spokane; brother-in-law, Ron Worley ('65) (Jeannie); children: Melisa, Sean and Michelle Pierce; step-children, Elizabeth Spillman (Tony) and Lindsey Wylde (Rebecca); like a daughter, Anna Rhodes; grandchildren: Nicole Buckley (Rory), Amanda Wallet (Alex), Scott Donley (Kaycee), Sarah Donley, Jordan Farrare, Amber Gaines, Kylee Yearsley, Dakota, Charles, Yvaine and Netta Dilks; and seven great grandchildren.

John will forever be remembered for his jokes, his infectious laugh will always fill our hearts with joy, and his personality filled us with laughter. All that knew John were touched by his big heart and enormous teddy bear hugs. We will carry him with us forever, and his love for us will never be forgotten.

His Memorial service will be held on August 3, 2019 at 2pm at Columbia Community Church at 150 Gage Blvd. in Richland.

Neptune Society, Spokane, is in charge of arrangements.

The following information was written by John for the 40-year class reunion in 2007:

"After not seeing each other for twenty years, Nancy (Worley '67) and I re-met at the 20-year reunion on July 3, 1987. We really hit it off and fell in love. We had so much in common because of our history, and everything was just right. We married a month later. After we married, we honeymooned in Hawaii, spent time on the Big Island, Maui and Oahu.

Nancy relocated to the Morton area, where I was living. About ten years ago, I was transferred to the Grays Harbor Area (Hoquiam-Aberdeen) where we have lived since. Nancy has two children: Elizabeth, who is married, has four children and is currently working out in the Hanford Area; and Rob, after spending a year in Iraq with the National Guard, is now working for Yahoo. I have two children: Sean and Michelle. Sean is married and living in Boulder, CO; and Michelle lives and works in Lacey, WA.

I've worked for my company for almost 34 years. Nancy is employed with the Quinault Beach Resort & Casino in Ocean Shores.

Our hobbies include side trips to various destinations around the Northwest and Canada. We get to a couple of Mariner and Seahawks games every year and like to hit the various casinos here in Washington and Oregon. I haven't been out as much as I like, but golfing is a sport I really enjoy. We do football picks in the winter. I was lucky and won a big screen TV. Nancy won Seahawks tickets.

Besides our short trips we have found a spot in Cannon Beach, OR where we go every spring. It rejuvenates us from all the gray, rainy winters here in Hoquiam. We have also traveled to Reno, Vegas, Northern California and to Denver for my son's marriage.

I've been fortunate, through my company, to have traveled extensively through southeast Alaska and the Western Provinces of Canada. Nancy and I just celebrated our 20th anniversary back in Hawaii, where we spent two beautiful weeks, a week in Maui and a week in Oahu. We renewed our vows on a beach in Maui.

If things work out, Nancy and I are hoping to retire in a year and a half or at age 62 at the latest. We hope to move back to the Tri-Cities to family and sunshine."
