Roger Leon Trimble, 55, of Boise, passed away at his home on June 26, 2004, after a spirited battle with cancer. Memorial services were held at 3PM on Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Road in Boise. A celebration of his life was held immediately following at Quinn's Lounge.

Roger was born May 24, 1949, in Moran, KS, to Stanley J. and Mary Jane Roof Trimble. He attended Chief Jo Junior High School and graduated with the class of 1967 from Columbia High School (aka Richland High School). In 1974, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology from Washington State University in Pullman and remained a staunch supporter and member of the Alumni Association. He was also active in the U. S. Air Force National Guard from 1971-77.

Roger was a loyal, compassionate man with a tremendous love of life. He truly loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golf, travel and dear friends. Roger married his longtime friend and love, Pamela Pickens, in January, 2004. They enjoyed spending time together at home, on the road, in the mountains and on the river along with their boys (dogs) Quincy and Murphy.

Roger always had time for a friend, whether to lend an ear or a hand. Roger had a gentle disposition, and people were drawn in by his great sense of humor, engaged by his stories and graced with his genuine interest in their lives. During the course of his battle with cancer, he was called, visited, comforted and supported emotionally by a countless number of friends and acquaintances from all over the country. Roger's love for the land led him to his career with the Bureau of Land Management in the fire management program. From 1971 through 1986 while attending college and after graduation, he worked in various fire positions in the Fairbanks and Anchorage districts in Alaska, becoming a BLM Alaska state office fire staff officer, and then was selected as the manager of the Alaska Fire Service (AFS). In 1986, Roger transferred to Washington, D.C., to become the lead staff officer in the BLM national fire management program and in 1990 moved to Boise to become the BLM Associate Director at the National Interagency Fire Center. After five years in Boise, he transferred back to the BLM Washington office until his retirement in 1999. His contribution to the BLM and to the national interagency fire management program was significant.

Roger is survived by his wife, Pam Trimble, of Boise; grandmother, Katherine Roof of Uniontown, KS; brother, Dave ('72) (Debbie) Trimble of Vancouver, WA; sister, Janet ('74) (Bill) McGuffey of North Bend, OH; nephew, Marcus Trimble of Vancouver, WA; niece, Katie Trimble of Vancouver, WA; stepdaughters: Melinda Melvin of Warren, OH, and Rebecca (Chad) Harvey of Pearl, MS; and grandsons, Hunter and Chance Harvey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Mary Jane Trimble; and two brothers, Gary Lynn Trimble and Mark Jay Trimble.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Mountain States Tumor Institute, 100 E. Idaho, Boise, ID 83712 or St. Luke's Hospice, 190 E. Bannock, Boise, ID 83712.
